Way back in 2002 I was commissioned by North Norfolk District Council to complete a watercolour of the pier at Cromer as a retirement present for Robert Marlowe theatre impressario and producer of the end of the pier show at Cromer for 22 year.
I had to produce 4 proofs in different styles and colour schemes for the council to decide which they wanted to have painted as the final piece, the view had to be from the guest house overlooking the pier where Robert Marlowe made his home for the summer season.
The final piece was in bright seaside colours (the boards on the pier were grey) a querky style and perspective with the dates of Mr Marlowes reign on the entrance to the pier.
I was expecting the painting to be presented gift wrapped, but at the end of the final show of the season after the final curtain my painting was paraded on stage for the audience to see. The adrenalin ran as did my tears; I was dreading the look on Mr Marlowes face he might not like what he saw!!!!
No need to worry he looked ecstatic, (he may have been a good actor) and at the after show party thanked me personally.
With permission of the council I had limited edition prints made of the Cromer Pier painting, many have sold but I do have some of them remaining.
The pier is depicted as it was at the time before the theatre was renovated and extended,
A4 prints are mounted in white mounts that fit into an 11″ x 14″ frame
A3 prints are unmounted
